The Technology Support Specialist provides a variety of technology
support to staff across the state and over 15 locations. This
position is based in Portland, OR; however, will include
occassional travel to office locations across the state. The last
fifteen (15) years of work history will be used for determination
of salary placement. Based on relevant experience, the selected
candidate's hiring salary will be between $50,500 - $62,183.
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary responsibilities of the person in this position are to
provide technical support, training, and assistance to staff. The
Technology Support Specialist helps to maintain the OEA computing
system environment including Microsoft Office 365, phones (VOIP),
shared disk space, email services, web services and databases.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
General
- Support and advance the OEA mission, vision, and values.
- Contribute to, support, and actively engage in the
organization's commitment to create and maintain a diverse,
equitable, and inclusive workplace. Participate in activities,
trainings, and/or workgroups to support OEA's commitment in this
important mission.
- May provide support to the OEA Headquarters office by answering
the general phone line and welcoming visitors on occasion.
- May provide substantive feedback on a variety of OEA
initiatives and/or represent Associate Staff on a variety of OEA
committees. Information Technology
- Provide technical support for hardware and software problems
and maintain an efficient helpdesk operation to assist staff and
member leaders with computer issues.
- Perform incident management using Help Desk database including
frequent updates and reporting.
- Analyze, diagnose, and fix computer problems.
- Maintain documentation and training materials to empower end
users towards self-help; support new employee onboarding when
requested.
- Interact with and coordinate issues with the NEA Helpdesk as
needed.
- Assist with creating or procuring software training for
staff.
- Assist with the maintenance and administration of local
computer networks and software systems.
- Promote and enforce OEA security and acceptable use policies,
maintaining accurate security levels, passwords, and data
access.
- Assist in protection of data including network intrusion, virus
protection, and data back-ups.
- Maintain equipment inventory and monitors status of maintenance
agreements, warrantees, licenses, and support contracts.
- Participate in cross-functional teams and committees as
assigned.
- Support OEA objectives and work collaboratively to accomplish
desired results.
- Support A/V and other IT resources associated with member and
staff meetings across all OEA office locations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Minimum two (2) years of college in Information Systems, Computer
Science or related field or equivalent training; Bachelor's degree
preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Three (3) years of installing, operating, maintaining networked
computers and server systems in a multiple platform environment,
and installing and maintaining peripheral devices (printers,
scanners, hard drives, etc.)
- In depth knowledge required in current Microsoft Office
Suite(s), including Office365 and SharePoint.
- Demonstrated knowledge of: Windows workstation and server
operating systems; networking software including Windows Active
Directory; virtual machines, TCP/IP networking protocols and
related Internet technologies (email, client/server, FTP server,
WWW server, HTML); network management systems (configuration,
analysis, maintenance, backup, and archiving)
- Demonstrated ability to: diagnose and correct software problems
and conflicts, and to identify and repair hardware malfunctions;
and conduct research to solve technical problems.
- Experience with making moves/adds/changes to VOIP phone
systems.
- Experience and literacy in QuickBooks and DocuWare
preferred.
- Non-profit and/or union experience preferred. OTHER
INFORMATION
SUPERVISORY
- The employee works under the direction of the Director of
Information Technology and is expected to operate with relative
independence.
- This position is not in a supervisory role. WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is based at the OEA Headquarters office in
Portland, OR.
- Flexibility in schedule. This position may require the
incumbent to work some evenings and weekends for monthly Board
meetings (typically Saturday mornings), quarterly scheduled
maintenance (typically Thursday evenings), and/or emergency fixes.
Where feasible for the work that needs to occur, remote work is
offered for hours worked outside of the incumbent's typical
shift.
- Occasional travel to OEA field offices across the state is
expected as needed for both this position and the Director of
Information Technology to support technology needs. A successful
candidate will have access to reliable transportation.
- On-call for IT emergencies as back-up to the Director of
Information Technology for extraordinary circumstances. Where
feasible for the work that needs to occur, emergency support can be
performed remotely.
